SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
Docents and Perennial Volunteers commit to complete ~15 hours of service monthly between the hours of 8:30 am and 4 pm. Docents will generally be scheduled Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Other days may be an option as well depending on the needs of Slide Ranch, Docent availability, and area you are volunteering in.
Perennial Volunteers (non-docents) may volunteer any day of the week depending on Slide Ranch Staff schedules.
TRAINING:
Docents must complete ~40 hours of training on the history of Slide Ranch, Program elements, Animal care and interaction, Garden projects, and more. Most docents will be an active part of our Family Farm Days and regularly interact with visitors sharing knowledge about our site, animal areas, garden, and natural areas as well.
Training dates will occur over a combination of Mondays and Saturdays in the Fall. Exact dates are still TBD.
Docents must complete all required training before becoming a docent, as well as periodic training focused on upcoming changes or updates to tasks at Slide Ranch.
After receiving a half day orientation, perennial volunteers will receive “just in time” training on whatever tasks they are helping with each day, as needed.
Docents and Perennial Volunteers will be asked to foster stewardship by educating visitors about Slide Ranch, National Park visiting etiquette, and "leave no trace" principles.
To express interest in becoming a Docent or Perennial Volunteer please complete this application. A one-time fee of $100 is required for all docents (not for general volunteers) - to be paid before the start of training. This fee covers administrative costs associated with onboarding and training of new docents. Scholarships may be available. More details will be available once training dates are set.
