High wind/rain events
When sustained winds over 20mph or expected gusts of over 30mph are in the forecast, our ranch team will assess potential risk and reach out to teachers/program leads to discuss the potential for rescheduling or cancelling programs for the safety of all participants and staff. We do not cancel programs when rain and light winds/no winds are forecast.

Fog, rain, or shine! Our programs keep going.

Weather on the coast is highly localized, can change quickly, and often varies throughout the Bay Area. On very rare occasions, on the morning of a program or just prior depending on forecasts, our staff may determine that extremely inclement weather requires canceling. If this happens, we will reach out to the program as early as possible.
If there is any question the morning of a program, it is best to reach out to our Director of Programs or Program Coordinator directly. If our staff cancels the program, you are eligible for rescheduling or a full refund. Cancellations made when we believe it is safe to deliver programs are not eligible for a refund. If we are able to reschedule within the same season, we will do our best to do so.

Rainy days:
During rainy days we will have shelters set-up to provide students with some shelter during program at our milking stanchions for milking program and at two of our cook stations for garden program.

We have hands-on activities that may occur in the yurt in addition to our usual experiential activities throughout the ranch.

Groups can enjoy their lunch in our Yurt and/or FTTC (depending on group sizes and program flow) if needed.

The remainder of our program is outdoors. We highly recommend program leaders ensure their students/participants are prepared for any weather by bringing/wearing warm layers (preferably not cotton! cotton does not insulate when wet) and rain wear/rain boots to keep dry. Slide Ranch is fun to explore regardless of the weather so we hope whatever the weather brings your group will still have an amazing experience.

Overnight Program additions:
Dinner/breakfast options:

  1. If there is rain expected during evening/morning meals, some schools have opted to have kids eat in their tents; cooking and prep are in the Dome

  2. We may be able to arrange cooking/eating between the Yurt and FTTC. Depending on the size of the group, you may be able to have dinner in the FTTC (entire group with adults/chaperones/teachers must be no more than 38 people).

Night program activities can take place in the Yurt or in both the Yurt and FTTC if needed.
